MESSAGES OF 11th ARAW VALUES AWARDS
The Araw Values Awards
The ARAW Values Advertising Awards recognizes outstanding and excellent advertising and marketing messages and/or materials for Branded Communications and Advocacy Communications that promote the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values, a cluster of select and well-defined values for positive social changes.
The above industry biennial program, now on its 11th season, is organized by the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines (Ad Foundation), the social development institution and advocacy body of the multi-sector Philippine advertising and marketing communications industry.
The Araw Values Technical Awards
The ARAW Values Technical Awards are anchored on the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values as Competition Categories and as Judging Criteria for entries on Branded or Advocacy Communications, as Single Entries only covering various media forms.
In addition though, the ARAW Values Technical Awards focus on the expertise in these 7 Technical fields: (1) Animation and Visual Effects (2) Cinematography (3) Photography (4)Production Design (5) Editing (6) Sound Design, Editing & Mixing (7) Visual & Audio Restoration. The 2019 ARAW Values Technical Awards is piloted to coincide with the 11th ARAW Values Advertising Awards.
Judging System & Special Jury
The Online Finalists - Metal Round of Judges consist of select leaders and management staff from the multi- sector industry and Ad Foundation membership, together with some educators in marketing communications and NGO representatives, renowned for their integrity and with honed skills on judging various industry and other awards programs over the years. The 63 select individuals were grouped accordingly into seven (7) distinct panels of 9, with the various panels divided according to the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values. Panels were designated to judge entries of various media categories for these competition divisions: Branded and Advocacy Communications, and Students’ division. The different panels of judges provided the ratings for all the competition entries, abstaining from judging based on conflict of interests.
Special Awards’ Historical Perspective & Tanglaw ng ARAW Values Awards
The industry biennial ARAW Values Advertising Awards presented Special Awards to honor select and deserving individuals and industry leaders as well as entities over the years in recognition of pioneering initiatives and sustained dedication on the promotion of values advertising and positive values for social change and nation-building. The endowment of Special Awards, as an award of distinction, require the unanimous decision of the ARAW Values Advertising Awards Organizing Committee, and upon the turnover of the above awards program to the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines, by the ARAW Values Awards Executive Committee, in consultation with the Ad Foundation executive officers. Special Awards are not regularly presented for every season of the once-every two-years’ ARAW Values Awards.

Trailblazers & Milestones
ARAW, or the Advertising Recognition Awards, was launched at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on the occasion of the Asian Advertising Congress hosted by the Philippine advertising industry (which also coincided with the biennial Philippine Advertising Congress) as a fitting highlight of the auspicious event. Amar Gambol, Chairman of the Advertising Suppliers Association of the Philippines (ASAP) and concurrently Vice-Chairman of the Philippine Board of Advertising (or PBA, re-named to AdBoard in August 1989), was at the helm of the Asian Congress and the Philippine Ad Congress. The ARAW Creative Awards became the closing and celebratory event of the Congress, and all the biennial Philippine Advertising Congress events thereafter.

Competition Brief:
This year, the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines and its ARAW Values Awards Organizing Committee decided to have an in-depth perspective on the industry’s biennial ARAW Values Awards vis-à-vis current trends and various developments in the industry and in our overall evolving landscape. And likewise, we have to also respond to some industry sector clamor. For Ad Foundation and one of its flagship projects, the ARAW Values Advertising Awards, to be relevant to the times and the needs of the marketing communications industry, and thus make a difference, we have to train our sights and focus on inclusion, multiculturalism, gender-sensitivity, single parenting, and the like. Undaunted, the Ad Foundation and its ARAW Values Awards Organizing Committee decided to take these immediate and relatively bold steps, without much ado and despite the apparent time constraints:
- Review of the definitions of the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values, both as Competition Categories and as Judging Criteria to duly reflect the multi-cultural heritage of our people and country, at the same time, respond to needs for inclusion of various sectors of the civil society, which required consultation with a renowned and multi-awarded social scientist, an expert in sociology and social research, with a number of published and commissioned studies and technical papers.
- Develop a twin - ARAW Values Awards Competition project that can ran parallel together, addressing separate but complimenting aspects of the awards program, yet firmly anchored on the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values both as Competition categories and as Judging Criteria for Branded Communications or Advocacy Communications as Competition Divisions, in various and well defined media formats.
11 TH ARAW Values Advertising (AVA) Awards, that started in 1998 and was sustained thereafter as a biennial industry and values laden awards program, enhanced further to include Competition entries of individual students leading to the creation of a Students’ Competition division, with a much wider reach through its Awards Night showcase delayed telecast, with “global feeds” in The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) 7 territories worldwide, and a steadfast increase of Competition entries from the multisector industry, non- government organizations (NGO’s), government and government- owned/controlled corporations (GOCC’s), professional organizations and business entities.
2019 ARAW Values Technical Awards, to be introduced and piloted this year to duly recognize and honor the Outstanding Work per specific technical field or the Most Outstanding in Branded Communications or Advocacy Communications, across 7 technical fields of expertise, namely; Animation and Visual Effects, Cinematography, Photography, Production Design, Editing, Sound Design, Editing and Mixing, and Visual and Audio Restoration (Audio, Video, Film); open only to industry members, non- government organizations, government and government owned/controlled corporations, individual professionals and freelancers, who may belong to an industry organization, or a technical guild, or a renowned professional expert without membership in any trade or professional organizations; Competition open to Single Entry only, in various media forms, for a specific technical field.
- Sustain the “Tanglaw ng ARAW” Special Awards, first implemented during the 9 th ARAW Values Advertising Awards and sustained in the following ARAW Values Awards biennial season, to duly recognize and honor outstanding contributions of individuals and/or organizations to the development and growth of the ARAW Values Awards program and instill the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values among industries, communities, people and country.
