ONLINE FINALISTS - METAL ROUND JUDGING SYSTEM
The Online Finalists - Metal Round of Judges consist of select leaders and management staff from the multi- sector industry and Ad Foundation membership, together with some educators in marketing communications and NGO representatives, renowned for their integrity and with honed skills on judging various industry and other awards programs over the years. The 63 select individuals were grouped accordingly into seven (7) distinct panels of 9, with the various panels divided according to the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values. Panels were designated to judge entries of various media categories for these competition divisions: Branded and Advocacy Communications, and Students’ division. The different panels of judges provided the ratings for all the competition entries, abstaining from judging based on conflict of interests.

WITH THE AVA ORGANIZING COMMITTEEThe Special Jury is composed of highly respected and eminent personalities from the industry and from various sectors of civil society such as the academic community, culture and the arts, NGO’s, and government. Members of the Special Jury are selected for their track record in their own fields of expertise and for renowned integrity and credibility. The Special Jury selects the Platinum Awards for Branded and Advocacy Communications from among the Gold winners, representing the ”best of the best” among the entries. Presiding officer of the Special Jury is the incumbent Chairman of the Board of the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines.

Javier Jose “JJ Calero:” A highly respected advertising industry pioneer and leader, JJ, as he is addressed to by all his industry colleagues and associates, is a renowned advocate values promotion and social marketing. He was the recipient of the Tanglaw ng ARAW Special Awards in 2018 during the 10th ARAW Values Advertising Awards, an honor bestowed on him by the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines and the entire industry, for envisioning the ARAW Values Advertising Awards in 1998 as the Chairman of the AdBoard then. JJ Calero is an adman extraodinaire, with an advertising career that has spanned some five decades. As former Chairman of J. Walther Thompson (JWT) - Philippines, he led one of the largest advertising agencies in the world and in the country to be the top advertising agency in the Philippines from 1976 to 1991. JJ Calero went on to become JWT’s Regional Director overseeing operations of the agency in South East Asian countries. For all his feats in the country, he became a recipient of the much coveted AGORA Awards for Marketing Management in 1987. He currently sits as Chairman of Full Circle, a PR company, aside from having board directorships in the PhilAm Asset Management , Inc., Institute of Corporate Directors, Asian Institute of Journalism & Communications, Performance Auto Motors Inc. and World Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
The Hon. Roman Romulo is a member of the House of Representatives once more, serving as Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Education. He graduated from the University of the Philippines - College of Law, and practiced his lawyering career at the Sycip, Salazar Law Office, immediately after passing the Philippine Bar. As a young congressman, representing Pasig, the Honorable Roman Romulo authored the bill, “Unifast Education” , that was successfully enacted and implemented for deserving students for high school and college education. He ran for the Philippine Senate in 2016, but unfortunately lost in the election. He served as the Executive Director of the Philippine Association of Sugar Producers and Beverages for a year, practiced once more his career as a corporate lawyer and socio-civic leader, before running once more for the Congressional seat in Pasig, which he won readily. The Honorable Congressman Roman Romulo is married to a former Congresswoman of Bulacan, beauteous and ever-gracious Soledad “Shalani” Aguirre. The Honorable Roman Romulo is renowned for integrity and credibility as a public servant, living up to the trademark of the Romulo clan, a renowned and highly respected family of public servants in the country.
Dr. Virginia Alvarez – Miralao; Phd, demography and research from Cornell University, U.S. A. Dr. Miralao is a multi-awarded, renowned and highly respected social scientist, educator, social research author, a Fullbright scholar and member of the Fullbright Alumni Association . Dr. Miralao took her undergraduate studies in s responsible for upgrading the U.P. undergraduate program studies in Sociology from the University of the Philippines. Earning a Fullbright scholarship, she also took up her masters’ degree in Social Sciences at the University of the Philippines. Fresh from her doctorate studies as a Fullbright scholar, she also served as a Fellow at the Cornell University for six (6) months, before moving back to University of the Philippines. Dr. Miralao was responsible for upgrading the U.P.’s undergraduate study program in Sociology and in Social Sciences. A former Executive Director of the Philippine Council for Social Sciences and former Director- General of the UNESCO –Philippine Commission, Dr. Miralao authored and delivered special lectures, conducted several studies and authored several papers on community development, socio-economic and demography, gender - sensitivity, urban & rural social behavior, etc. being used as reference data by government, academe, NGO’s and by the private sector in the country and some Asian developing economies. Dr. Miralao’s special study on the Philippine population and its demography/ social classes are still being used as baseline data for numerous socio-economic-political studies being conducted at present by pollsters and social researchers.
Felice Prudente – Sta. Maria is a multi-awarded book author and communicator, a cultural leader and socio-civic worker, a cultural heritage advocate, a culinary historian specializing in Philippine colonial eras (1565 t0 1945), a former broadsheet opinion columnist, a Food page columnist, and a book author specializing in Philippine cultural heritage. A past President of the Metropolitan Museum, a former member of the National Commission for Culture & the Arts (NCCA), a Commissioner of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines and a member of the Ayala Museum Board of Advisers, Felice Sta. Maria envisioned the project, a values laden and meaningful Centennial on the Declaration of Philippine Independence, together with the late Dr. Alejandro Roces, Linda Gamboa, and Carmen Padilla, as a long-term government-private sector partnership project in 1989. The four, tapping their network of friends such as Cesar E. A. Virata, Gloria “Baby” Angara, Tonette Lagdameo, Virgilio Pantaleon, Oscar Villadolid and Menardo Jimenez to be part of the Core Group to work on a private-public sector partnership for a meaningful celebration on the Declaration of Philippine Independence Centennial in 1998. The Core Group became the founding members of the Philippine Centennial Foundation, Inc. (PCFI), Felice Sta. Maria also served as a Commissioner (for retooling of selected historical sites) of the Philippine Centennial Commission (PCC; 1992 - 1999). She received a number of professional awardssuch as the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) Outstanding Professional Award in the field of Arts & Letters, Mariang Maya Awards of Excellence for Cultural Work and History Writing, Manuel L. Quezon Gawad Parangal for Arts & Culture, SEA Write Awards as Most Distinguished ASEAN Writer in 2001 (Thailand), Knighthood, Grand Order of Arts and Letters bestowed by the Republic of France, and Dangal ng Haraya Lifetime Achievement Awards for her work in Cultural Management in 2001, to cite a few.

Nicdao, Jr.: incumbent Chairman of the Board of Advertising Foundation of the Philippines; President of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), President of Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) and ManCom member of Star City; founding member and incumbent Board Member of the Ad Standards Council (ASC); former board member of Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and member of the UNESCO - Philippines Commission, in charge for Communications.

Ricardo “Dik “ Trofeo is a renowned director-producer of film documentary(ies) in South East Asia. Dik is a highly respected scholar and lecturer in the ASEAN region whose expertise on documentary film production, from concept development to direction and final production - execution, span almost five decades. Director Dik Trofeo did series of documentary films and special presentations on Indonesia, to include milestones as well as legacies of various Indonesian leaders such as President Sukarno and President Suharto, film documentary presentations on the Philippines on former President Ferdinand and First Lady Imelda Romualdez – Marcos, and special presentations on the country and former President Joseph Estrada. Direk Trofeo, an Honorary Member of Ad Foundation, also did these projects for the foundation and the multi-sector Philippine advertising industry, to cite a few --- “The Friendly Persuaders”, “Bayan Ko, Komersyal Mo”, “Support the Philippine Centennial”, “Philippines: Investment Destination in Asia” . Dik Trofeo also served as President and CEO of the government TV channel, People’s Television nNetwork (PTV 4) during the administration of President Estrada.
Robert Labayen is a multi-awarded Executive Creative Director with some five decades of his professional career in the creative world of advertising and marketing communications, churning over multimedia campaigns for products and services for various clients and entities and for the industry. A recipient of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards of AAAA-P and the industry, Robert is also a renowned educator with high respect and integrity, a composer and a lyricist as well. As a 24 25 committed advocate in social marketing and nation-building campaigns, Robert is responsible for upgrading the ARAW Values Advertising Awards, institutionalizing its Competition Rules, defining into lay-man’s term the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values in 2008, and again, in 2010, at the same time, that he conducted a special study on the ARAW Values Advertising Awards as a unique industry program. This established that the industry’s ARAW Values Advertising Awards is the only one of its kind nationwide and even worldwide. Robert is currently the Head of ABS-CBN Creative Communications Group and a member of ABS-CBN Corporation’s Management Committee.
Arnel A. Patawaran is the author of three books, to include the best-seller reference book over the years, “Write Here, Right Now”. His book, ”Hainaku”, is a collection of haiku poems that he himself wrote, and his latest feat, which features a series of short stories, highlighted by select visuals from the painting of celebrated painter, Heart Evangelista Ongpauco –Escudero, “Manila was a Long-time Ago”, has once more caught the attention of equally renowned Filipino book authors and writers, to include critics even from National Artists for Literature, Jose Fil Sionil and Virgilio0 “Rio” Almario. Arnel is the incumbent LifeStyle editor of the Manila Bulletin and Editor-in-Chief of the weekly magazine, Panorama. He was also a former editor of the glitzy Asian magazine, Lifestyle Asia; a former Editor and opinion columnist of the daily broadsheet, Manila Standard; and currently, an educator-lecturer in Creative Writing at the Centro Escolar University and DSLU-St. Benilde’s College.
Alex Syfu is the Managing Partner & Chief Client Officer of Dentsu Jayme Syfu and incumbent Chairman of the Ad Standards Council (ASC). He was one of the Founding Members of the 1st Ad Summit Pilipinas in 2012, serving thereafter as the Overall Organizing Chairman of the biennial industry congress, the 2nd Ad Summit Pilipinas, one of the most successful and well-attended multi-sector industry congresses, held at Subic, Olongapo City in Zambales in March 2015. Alex also served as a former AAAA - P Chairman and was also a past Vice-Chairman of the AdBoard.
Eric Carlos is a Senior Colorist at the Central Digital Lab, Inc. He has been color grading TV commercials, feature films, documentaries, music videos and TV series for almost three decades. He has a vast experience grading on film, video, and digital platforms. One of his specializations is grading for film restoration. He regularly conducts color grading workshops and seminars in top universities.
Ruperto “Jun” S.
