11th ARAW VALUES ADVERTISING AWARDS & 2019 ARAW VALUES TECHNICAL AWARDS

The 11th edition of the ARAW Values Awards was held last January 30, 2020 at the Studio 10 of ABS-CBN. The star-studded and values laden Awards Night program featured various presenters such as select guests from government and from some NGO’s, and a number of performing artists and talents from ABS-CBN who joined the leaders and members of the multisector advertising and marketing communication industry in honoring the winners of the twin-fold ARAW Values Advertising Awards Competitions for 2019. ABS-CBN’s Special Projects Group consultant, Ms. Carmencita Guerrero, headed the ARAW Values Awards Staging & Telecast Committee.
The 11th season of the ARAW Values Advertising Awards also marks these ARAW Values Awards ‘Golden Nuggets” and milestones: 1) 20 years of industry partnership with ABS-CBN; (2) adoption of a more inclusive definition of the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values, responsive to the evolving and changing environment and the times; and (3) start of the 1st ARAW Values Awards Technical Awards, with its successful pilot coinciding with the 11th ARAW Values Advertising Awards.
Brief History of ARAW Values Awards & its ABS-CBN Partnership:
The ARAW Values Advertising Awards, now on its 11th season since its commencement in 1998 as a biennial industry awards program, is now on its 22th year. Anchored on the ARAW 7 Cornerstone Values as Competition category and as Judging criteria, the unique, values laden industry competition expanded its thrusts and coverage not just to encourage values advertising within the industry, but to promote and inculcate values for positive social changes and nation-building. In 2002, the nationwide telecast of the ARAW Values Awards Night started, with the partnership of the industry and ABS-CBN. Directed by ABS-CBN’s Director Alco Guerrero, this nation-building partnership with ABS-CBN was sustained up to the present. And to enhance this further, “global feeds” in 7 territories by ABS-CBN’s subsidiary, The Filipino Channel (TFC), started in 2012, in order to reach out Filipino communities worldwide, particularly in Asia, in the Americas, in some parts of Europe and some parts of Africa. The partnership of the industry and ABS-CBN became much stronger in 2006, with the ARAW Values Advertising Awards program being formally turned over to the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines (Ad Foundation), the advocacy arm and social development institution of the multisector advertising and marketing communications industry for social marketing and nation-building endeavors.

The ARAW Values Bronze Awards and 2019 ARAW Values Outstanding Technical Awards were honored in an earlier industry program, managed by the ARAW Values Awards Organizing Committee, specifically the Technical Core Group, Production and Admin/Logistics Committees. The program was held at the ABS-CBN’s Dolphy Theater, that served as the ARAW Values Awards ‘home’ theater since 2008, courtesy of ABS-CBN, to further help Ad Foundation and its ARAW Values Awards Organizing Committee, composed of select volunteers from the multisector foundation and industry memberships, bring down costs of the Awards Night. The program was held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The program was fully documented as its highlights will also be edited into the final program for the delayed nationwide telecast over ABS-CBN’s Channel 2, and its subsequent airing, in 7 TFC territories worldwide.
Overall Chairman and staging director of the ARAW Values Awards afternoon program was Vince Reyes, Ad Foundation board member and comptroller, chairman of ARAW Values Awards Organizing - Production Committee, and Head of the ARAW Values Technical Core Group. Assisting him were: Roy Vincent del Valle, assistant head of Technical Core Group and concurrently co-Chairman of Admin/Logistics Committee; Rick Hawthorne, Chairman of ARAW Awards Admin/Logistics Committee and member of ARAW Values Technical Core Group; Amrei Dizon, co-Chairperson of ARAW Values Awards – Production Committee and member of ARAW Values Awards Technical Core Group, and ARAW Awards co- Organizers Digna D. Santos, Chairperson of ARAW Awards Special Concerns Committee, Jay Sarmiento, Chairperson of PR, Information & Promotions Committee with co-Chairperson Badette Cunanan, together with the members of the ARAW Awards Admin/Logistics and Production Committees, namely, Anna Lissa del Valle, Nicolette Mallari, Juvy Mendoza, Ariel Ko, Andrea Ricasio, Jan Agulto, Q Pastrana and ABS-CBN’s Irene Mae Layno. ARAW Values Awards Management Competition co-Chairman, Alan Gerald Fontanilla, extended his assistance, together with ARAW Values Awards Organizing - Creative Committee Chairman and ABS-CBN’s Head of Creative Communications Group, Robert Labayen.
Program was brief and fast-paced. Roy del Valle, with super-talented and charming wife, Lissa, were the co-hosts of the entire program. ARAW Awards Organizing Committee Deputy Chairperson Len B. Pozon delivered the Welcome Remarks. ARAW Values Awards Overall Organizing Chairperson, Ma. Belen “Blen” M. Fernando, keynoted the program. Presenters of the Awards to the winners of 11th ARAW Values Advertising Bronze and 2019 ARAW Values Outstanding Technical Awards were 2019 ARAW Values Technical Awards Special Jury members, multi-awarded producer-director of documentary films, Ricardo “Dik” Trofeo, and colorist, Eric Morales; together with ARAW Values officials Blen Fernando, Len Pozon, Digna Santos, Alan Fontanilla, Robert Labayen, Amrei Dizon and Rick Hawthorne. UPMG President Barbie Atienza also assisted as presenter of the ARAW Awards trophies to the winners.

Various notable celebrities and distinguished personalities from civil society graced the event to present and honor the winners for each ARAW Values Awards category and for each competition division.
ARAW Values Awards Independent Auditing Firm , P&A Grant Thornton, turned over the results of the ARAW Awards Competitions.
Ad Foundation and ARAW Values Awards Organizing Committee Officials Jun Nicdao, Ed Sunico, Blen Fernando, Vince Reyes, Len Pozon, Alan Fontanilla, Robert Labayen, Third Domingo, Jay Sarmiento, Badette Cunanan, Amrei Dizon, Roy del Valle and Rick Hawthorne presented the ARAW Values Awards metals to the winners of the Students’ Competition, and to the 11th ARAW Values Awards Silver and Gold winners.
Presenting the “Tanging ARAW ng Kalikasan” trophy honoring the late Regina “Gina”Lopez to Roberto L. Roy of the Lopez family and to ABS-CBN and Bantay Bata Foundations, were Ad Foundation Chairman of the Board Jun Nicdao, ARAW Awards Organizing Chairwoman Blen Fernando, Ad Foundation International Relations Officer Ed G. Sunico, Ad Foundation Comptroller Vince Reyes, and 11th ARAW Values Awards Special Jury member - industry guru and foremost values advocate, Javier Jose “JJ” Calero.
Presenting the ARAW Technical Award of Excellence and 11th ARAW Values four (4) Platinum Awards to the winners were: Ad Foundation Chairman Jun S. Nicdao, the ARAW Awards Organizing Chairwoman Blen Fernando, the Ad Foundation Int’l Relations Officer Ed G. Sunico, the Ad Foundation Comptroller Vince Reyes, Industry “guru” and 9th ARAW Values Awards “Tanglaw ng ARAW” recipient JJ Calero, and The Honorable Congressman Roman T. Romulo.
PRESENTERS
The TANGLAW NG ARAW NG KALIKASAN was awarded to the late Gina Lopez for her outstanding contribution in the protection and preservation of the environment. A special tribute was held with a VTR of a poem led by Mr. Ernie Lopez with the La Mesa Watershed staff and foresters, then a heartfelt performance of “Bawat Daan” from musicians Ebe Dancel and Bullet Dumas.
The awarding was presented by renowned broadcaster and former ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Director, Tina Monzon Palma, assisted by Ad Foundation Chairman Jun Nicdao, Ad Foundation board members and ARAW Awards officers Blen Fernando, Ed Sunico and Vince Reyes and industry values advocate, JJ Calero. The eldest son of Ms. Gina Lopez, Roberto Lopez-Roy received the award together with the Head of the ABS-CBN Foundation, Ms. Susan Afan.
